What is Paryushan? Paryushan is the most important festival of Jainism, celebrated for 8 days by Śvetāmbaras and 10 days by Digambaras. The word itself means “coming closer to the soul.” During this period, Jains focus on fasting, self-discipline, meditation, and reflection on the vows of non-violence, truth, honesty, celibacy, and non-possessiveness. The highlight of Paryushan is the spirit of forgiveness. On the last day, known as Samvatsari, Jains seek forgiveness from all by saying: “Micchami Dukkadam” 🙏 – If I have hurt you knowingly or unknowingly, please forgive me. ✨ Paryushan is not just a festival, it is a journey of purification and inner peace.
