National Security Adviser Ajit Doval said that the main reason many countries and empires fail is poor governance. He explained that out of 37 countries that faced collapse or serious problems since World War II, 28 suffered mainly because of weak governance. Doval compared this to history, saying great empires like the Roman Empire, the Mughal Empire, and Tsarist Russia also fell due to failure in governance, not lack of power. He added that even today, countries like Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Nepal face issues because of unstable and non-institutional regime changes, showing that strong governance and public trust are the real foundation of national security.
