In Ancient Buddhist teachings… The lotus rises from darkness the way wisdom rises from our own suffering. In the Avataṃsaka Sutra, the Buddha taught that “from the roots of confusion, the blossoms of awakening appear,” reminding us that our deepest struggles are often the soil of our transformation. The Udāna records the Buddha saying, “From the heap of suffering, the wise create a path.” He never asked us to reject the mud — only to understand it, refine it, and let it reveal who we really are. And in the Itivuttaka, The Buddha says, “Just as a fire glows when stirred, so does the heart glow when challenged.” Your obstacles aren’t signs of weakness. They’re invitations to deepen, soften, and rise above. So walk gently. Rise steadily. The lotus awakens not by avoiding the night, but by trusting its own light to guide the way.
