Sharad Purnima, Harvest Full Moon is a festival celebrating the autumn harvest, the brilliance of the full moon, and is particularly significant for worshipping Goddess Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth, as well as for spiritual reflection and seeking blessings for health and prosperity. On this night, it is believed that the moon shines with all sixteen kalas (phases/characteristics), and its light is considered to be Amrit (celestial nectar). Devotees perform Lakshmi Puja, stay awake (Kojagari) to welcome the goddess, and prepare kheer (rice pudding) to be kept under the moonlight for its nourishing and healing properties. Scriptures narrate that it was on this night that the immortal Raas Leela between Shree Krishna and the Gopis, led by Radha Rani, unfolded in the sacred groves of Vrindavan.
